The Simple Things

I think it's important to take a moment each day and reflect on what you are grateful for because it is easy to get drowned in the stresses of daily life. Time flies and before you know it's the middle of the year... and then the end. Maybe you haven't allowed yourself to take a few moments of your busy schedule to sit in the "now" and appreciate the simple things you have been blessed with. Every day I try to remind myself that my son will only be little for a short amount of time and if I don't embrace the moment (the good and bad) I will look back and wish I had done so.

The best things in life are free. In this present time of materialistic wants and always being connected to technology, we really have to make a point and search back to our roots to appreciate those free things - like love, friendship, family, a new harvest in the garden, etc - that often go unnoticed. When we ground ourselves with things that truly matter our souls will no doubt be enlightened and filled with gratitude. This sense of gratitude may radiate out of you and inspire people to do the same. Can you image a world filled with people who really take the time to acknowledge what they are grateful for?

I'm trying something new and starting a series of posting photos of simple things that I am grateful for every Thursday. My hope is that you will also be inspired to take a few moments and soak in your moment - whether it be good or bad.

We'll call it: The Simple Things

ACTION ALERT: Support non-GMO’s and farmer freedom in the Farm Bill!

This was taken directly from an email I received from the Weston A. Price Foundation. Some or maybe most of you are not members of the Weston A. Price foundation and I thought this was really good information for everyone to read. We need to work together to make sure our voices are heard and not let big corporations like Monsanto take over our farm bill.

ACTION ALERT: Support non-GMO’s and farmer freedom in the Farm Bill!
Having failed to pass a Farm Bill as scheduled last year, Congress is trying again.  Last week, both the House and the Senate Agriculture Committees met to develop the draft bill.
This week, the full Senate is scheduled to debate the Farm Bill, S.954.
Like the last several Farm Bills, the proposed Farm Bill will generally support the large consolidated corporate agriculture system.  There are no proposals on the table for systemic changes, but there are several potentially significant amendments on specific topics that affect sustainable farmers and local food consumers.
Please take action – call your Senators about the amendments listed below!

How I Cured My Son's Ear Infection... Naturally

About a month ago we (my family) planned to take a trip out to Florida to visit family and then we would leave Andrew with my mother-in-law for 9 days to give me a break.

I was dreaming about the time I would have. Nine days is not a lot of time but it was enough time to just take it easy, not have to worry about changing diapers, making lunch, scheduling naps, playing when I don't feel like it. It was enough time to enjoy not having to fight a toddler when things don't go his way or not have to hear whining and even be able to cook a meal and eat it in peace. It was just enough time to be able to really work on my blog, uninterrupted, and maybe even take myself to a cafe once or twice and enjoy a nice quiet atmosphere (and maybe a cool tea to go with it).

Yes. I was definitely dreaming for those nine days to come. Andrew had really been a hellion and had been testing my every bit of strength and patience. Each day was a battle to get through the day and I was SO ready to pass him off for a week and half (go ahead, judge me!). To top it off we both caught a cold a few weeks prior to our vacation. The week before we left Andrew got over his almost completely but I was still battling a serious sinus infection. Let's just say those nine days were not coming quickly enough!!!

We spent a nice, busy week in Florida visiting with friends and family and when it was time to say goodbye for 9 days to my toddler, I felt a little pain in my heart but I knew he would be happy and busy and so would I.

Or so I thought.
